Q: How many controllable vehicles will there be?
-There will be five fully controllable vehicles. the jeep, driller, APC, flier, and submersible. top
Q: How will the land, sea, and air vehicles be incorporated into the game? What purpose or functionality will they serve to the player?
-The player will be able to commandeer five vehicles throughout the course of the game. All vehicles have their own 3D cockpits, unique weapons, and customized physics. Generally, the player will be able to use a vehicle for a limited amount of time, and then will resume the game on foot. The vehicles will almost always be necessary for the player to use. The vehicles have much more firepower than the player, and offer protection. Certain vehicles have special abilities (like the drilling ability of the driller vehicle) that will have to be used to proceed in the game. Vehicles in general are not used that often in the game and only make up for a fraction of the total action. top
Q: Do turrets count as vehicles?
-No, there are a variety of controllable and non-controllable turrets on top of the six vehicles. Tuurets also make up for little of the game. top
Q: Do vehicles have weapons?
-Yes. top
Q: Are vehicular weapons different from normal weapons?
-Yes. top
Q: Do vehicular weapons have alternate modes of fire?
-Yes, the APC and the flier have two firing modes. top
Q: Can I run people over with vehicles?
-While it is possible to run over people in any vehicle, the only vehicles you can readily do it with are the APC, jeep, and the aircraft. In reality the jeep is rather slow (guards run faster than you), but you can still pick them off. It's impossible to hit someone with the driller or the submersible though. top
Q: When you go into a vehicle do you open the hatch to get into it or do you just walk up to it?
-You just walk up and press 'use' and you're magically and instantly in the cockpit. top
Q: When you enter a vehicle does it automatically cut to a cockpit view or does it go through some type of entering animation/procedure? Another way to put it would be, what happens when I'm looking at another character enter a vehicle? Does he just disappear or do we see him climb in, but all he has to do is press the use key?
-You're magically and instantly in the cockpit when you enter a vehicle and it is unknown how multiplayer will work, but it is assumed to be the same magical disappearance. top
Q: How will exiting the flying craft and submersible be handled?
-You just press 'use' again and you exit the craft from the place in which you entered, regardless of where your vehicle currently is. top
Q: Can you completely destroy or geo-mod vehicles?
-You can completely destroy a vehicle but you cannot geo-mod it. The vehicle is either 100% functional or completely destroyed. top
Q: Can you destroy certain parts of a vehicle like it's tires or engine thus making it inoperable?
-No. top
Q: Can you kill the pilot of vehicles?
-No. top
Q: Will vehicles be in multiplayer?
-The PS2 version does not have vehicles in multiplayer. It is unknown what the PC version will entail, but Volition has promised from the beginning that they will be in there. top
Q: Will there be a vehicle that two people can operate simultaneously (like gunner and driver)?
-The jeep has two functions; driving or gunning. top
Q: Will there be trains in the game that drive the user on specified routes similar to most other games, specifically Half-Life?
-Yes. top
Q: In the driller, are the drills always activated or do you turn them on?
-You turn them on via the shoot button. top
Q: Can I make my own vehicles from within the editor?
-We model our vehicles in Max. I suppose you could make one in the editor but it would have to move on a specific path, like a mining cart or gondola. This is possible because we use key-frame based moving geometry; however, the player would not be able to pilot this 'vehicle' as it were. top
Q: What happens when a vehicle blows up?
-You die. You are not ejected from the craft, aside from the one and only instance with the driller. top
