04/07/02 - Red Faction Village Downtime

Recently there was some downtime @ RFVillage caused by HIVE (they went over the space quota), and they have lost visitors. So to make up for that i'm putting them here in the news since RFV is one of the best RF News Sites, and all of you should visit it if you are interested in RF stuff. LINK

04/01/02 - HIVE 1.2a Dedicated Server

Ok. I have created a Hive 1.2 Dedicated Server, so now you can run Dedicated Server as easy as double-clicking an icon. The dedicated server file has also been updated. Go get it in Downloads Section.

03/31/02 - HIVE BETA 1.2a

Not even 6 hours have passed and new version is here. The reason is that the ACS did not work that well because of it's incompatibility with win98. So you will be able to launch a Dedicated server now and map for Hive 1.2, but the cheaters stay a problem...
Many people had problem running 1.2, but this version works for sure.
Hive 1.2a SHOULD be compatible with 1.2 because it is the same thing. I don't know how RF will recognize it.
Go get it - It's in the file section.

03/27/02 - Final Tweakings

I have stopped doing major changes and concentrating on tweakings. I have just finished placing HUD items for 640x480. I will do all other resolutions tommorow. Many more small changes are in progress.

03/24/02 - PSG1 is BACK!

Well, PSG1 proved to be not as useless as i thought it was so i'm putting it back. It will go instead of Flamethrower.

03/24/02 - Rocket Launcher is BACK!
|
|
I have finished modeling and animating new rocket launcher. It will be put in place of old rocket launcher, and M16 which WAS in place of the old rocket launcher, will go in the place of PSG1. PSG1 is eliminated and is no longer in the mod (50 cal sniper rifle is used much much more than PSG1, so PSG1 becomes useless).
I would put some screenshots, but because the mod will be out in about 4 days or so, you'll be seeing it in the mod anyway.

03/22/02 - Update

Hi, i know i haven't updated for a while, but don't worry, everything is progressing as planned. New Version of HIVE is now officially scheduled for March 31, 2002. There is still enormous amount of work for me to do, but right now is a spring break, so i don't have any homework. I've also started a new map called DM-Arena. Right now it's in Alpha stage so there are no screenshots.
Checker is also working on his maps. Right now he is working on a CTF map. He has already finished both of his DM maps - DM-BattleArena and DM-SpaceCity.
On the other topic, i was making different types of ammo today for new shell_eject, and it came out pretty good. Here is a render of 30-06 (7.62mmx63mm) ammunition that I put in the array.

03/16/02 - MIX

Good news everybody. Matt Jones decided to help out with some maps too.
Checker is working to improve his Space City map to look better, and it comes along nicely.
On the other note, the laser rifle texture was improved to look better.
Also i have redesigned chaingun, so it's not completely doom style. Expect screenshots soon.

A new member is on the team. His name is Chance "Checker" Blackwell, and he will be filling in map position. So expect more maps in the next version of hive! >:)

I'm currently looking for quality mappers to join HIVE team. Mapper will make maps that will be optimized for HIVE and it's weapons. If you think you're a good candidate, please send AT LEAST 2 samples to slidersv@yahoo.com

I have started writing the tutorial on RF weapons modding (models and animations). Tutorial should teach you pretty much everything you should know to create a decent weapon model with animations, and import it in the game (including 3rd person view of the weapon and textures).

03/09/02 - New Muzzle Flash

I have created new muzzle flashes for the Sniper Rifle, both First Person, and Third Person (side and front).
I was pretty happy with the result. Here is a screenshot of it.

03/09/02 - Laser Rifle in Action

I have just finished most of the Laser Rifle's animations so here are some screenshots you can look at. I'm considerably satisfied with the result, although i could do a much better job if RF_bone would listen to me (sometimes it seems that RF_bone has a mind of it's own - I reset the Xform more than 50 times for sure). Check back soon, more screenshots are coming up.

03/09/02 - Laser Rifle is in the game
|
After many tries and retries of getting the right texture for the laser rifle I ended up putting a more standard military look to the rifle. So i finally could put it in RF_bone, cut out unneeded faces and start animating. Some of the textures on the gun are animated, but you will not be able to see them until the next version of Hive will come out >:). Also i'm planning to create some major animations for this gun, so it will look more alive. The laser tracers are done, and i will post more screenshots of the laser rifle in action tommorow, when i will finish the animations. For now, you can take a look at this srcreenshot just to see how rifle looks in the game. I have included both full-scale screenshot, and the cutout version for those with slower connections. Enjoy.

Ahh, the weekend is finally here, i'm done with the homework and final projects at school, and i can continue my work. I have finished modeling laser rifle, and i think it came out pretty good. I'm going to put it in the game soon. Here are some renderings:

02/26/02 - Promised Screenshots

As promised here is preview screenshots of the improved desert eagle.

As you can see from the screenshots, player's fingers are no longer broken, and hands match the gun. Also the gun is no longer hollow. Safety and ClipEject triggers are no longer a texture, but they are part of the model. Also gun now contains much less polygons, and planar texture mapping is no longer used, so every polygon that is perpendicular should look better.

I have just finished modeling laser rifle, which I have sketched earlier this week. I'm trying to implement a couple of cool features to make it look more futuristic. I will post preview renders of it as soon as I get it textured.

Small update: I'm almost done with improving Desert Eagle pistol and how player holds it. The new version is much better than the old one. I'll post preview screenshots of it when it will be close to be finished (that will take me another day or so.)
