CHARACTERS
Q: How many main characters will there be?
-Six, including Parker. top
Q: What the hell's a Parker?
-Parker is the main character in Red faction, the player. He made a wrong choice, suffered through hell in the mines, and now somebody is going to pay. top
Q: Why does Parker looks like a sissy?
-That's not what your mom was saying about him. Besides, he cut his long hair that we saw in the early artwork for a more traditional look. top
Q: What kind of enemies will there be?
-There will be a wide variety of human opponents, with varying weapons and skill levels that range from pushovers to God damn cheaters that make you want to throw stuff. Plus, there are a variety of non-human foes, both organic and inorganic. top
Q: Will there be other enemies besides grunt type security guards?
-Of the human variety, in addition to the standard Ultor security guards there are mercs and elite guards. There will also be a variety of robot-types in the game. Some are armed and dangerous, some are not. Some (as in none) are helpful, or amusing, most (as in all) are neither. There will also be foes that are neither human nor machine such as plague mutants, and other creepy thing, but non-human enemies make up for very little of the total action. top
Q: Will we see any flying robots?
-Yes, but they comprise very little of the game. top
Q: Can that hacker guy (Hendrix) manipulate enemy robots, locks, cameras, etc?
-There are scripted events where he opens a door for you, or claims to have done something in another part of the complex (whatever), but that's all crap and doesn't really count. top
Q: Will the guards chat amongst themselves?
-Yes, you're going to overhear conversations, sometimes in situations in which you can see the guards but they can't see you, sometimes when you're approaching a corner and you hear voices from around the bend, tipping you to be alert, etc. Technicians and medics will also talk amongst themselves and with other guards. All these conversations are very rare though and are nowhere near as readily found as they are in No One Lives Forever. top
Q: In half-life there are some very limited conversations with monsters to monsters. This was cool but incomplete, will there be anything like this in Red Faction?
-No, unless you count mutants grunting at you? top
Q: Will bad guys fight other bad guys?
-During the course of the single player game you never encounter bad guys fighting other bad guys. top
Q: Can main characters help you?
-Technically yes, but it's all pretty lame... "Parker, I opened this door for you." But he's only saying that because you walked past a certain point that triggered him to say that. Had you put the game on mute you would have thought the door was left opened. You do meet up with main characters and without spoiling the plot, I'll just say they are slouches and Parker is the only reason anything is actually getting done against Ultor. If it wasn't for him the entire revolt would have lasted 3.4 seconds. top
Q: Who are the six main characters, and how are their voices?
-The main characters are:
- Parker: Miner caught up in the revolt (main character).
- Hendrix: Tech dude at Ultor who assists Parker and the rebellion.
- Eos: Leader of the Red Faction rebellion against Ultor.
- Gryphon: Weasel executive at the Ultor corporation.
- Capek: Despicable lead scientist at Ultor.
- Masako: Leader of vicious mercenaries hired by Ultor.
top
Q: How is the voice acting?
-A lot of the standard characters you meet, such as guards, mercs, and civilians are passable, though their voices can become a bit repetitious. The main characters? Parker is a cheesy idiot. Hendrix is pretty cool, albeit a bit monotonous at times. Eos is an overzealous Major Kira that you'll want to hit repeatedly. Gryphon is a pretty good performance for the character, though he seems a bit nice for the self-serving weasel he's played out to be. Capek is despicable, but can be a bit overdone at times. Masako is cool, but doesn't sound particularly mean, tough, or heartless, like her and her mercenaries are supposed to be. top
