MULTIPLAYER
Q: What kind of multiplayer will Red Faction offer?
-While Red Faction is designed to be primarily a single player game, the PC and Mac versions will come with full multiplayer support including Internet and LAN play for up to 32 players on a server. There will also be various modes of play such as deathmatch, capture the flag, team, and other standards including the possibility of new modes of play. The PS2 version will ship with two-player split-screen deathmatch multiplay and will be rather limited comparatively. top
Q: How exactly will this geo-mod engine behave in a deathmatch game?
-Walls and objects can be set to not be Geo-Moddable. It's all about play-balancing and seeing what's most fun while considering technological limitations. top
Q: Will geo-modding also be available in multiplayer?
-Yes. The level of geo-mods (i.e., how many are allowed, if at all) will be a server setting. All other effects will be present as well. top
Q: Will Red Faction have an in-game server browser?
--The PC version will at least use PXO, or another internal setup very similar to it. Whether or not RF supports GameSpy or other services is not known at this point. top
Q: Is Red Faction going to be "cheat-proof?" What kinds of measures will be taken to prevent cheating?
-Multiplayer in RF is client/server, with all the important stuff being simulated on the server. For example, even if somebody manages to make themselves invulnerable on their machine, the server will know he is not, and the server determines how damage is applied. The same goes for weapon firing, the server knows the valid fire rates for all weapons, so it will ignore any requests for weapon creation that aren't valid. We're taking cheating very seriously, and we'll do everything we can to ensure that Red Faction is immune to cheaters. top
Q: Will vehicles be in multiplayer?
-Not in the PS2 version. The PC version is still up in there, but Volition has promised from the beginning that vehicles would be in there. top
Q: Will there be bots in mutliplayer?
-The PS2 version does have bots in multiplayer. It is currently unknown as to whether they will make it in the PC version or not. top
Q: Will there be a dedicated server?
-Yes. top
Q: Will there be a dedicated Linux server?
-No. top
Q: Will Red Faction use PXO?
-Yes. top
Q: What's the multiplayer bot AI like?
-The PS2 version's bot AI will rush you, use terrain, hide, camp, etc. Each AI is assigned one of a set of battle modes/tendencies. Each tendency has a range of behaviors, depending on the terrain and situation the AI encounters. With that being said, they run around and shoot, and do not jump, or swim. It's currently undecided whether or not the PC version will have bots in multiplayer. top
